Our Identity: The Christian Alternative to Late Modernity’s Story

In contemporary Western culture we’re told that life is about achieving our ‘dreams’ – that human beings are meant to pursue personal self-actualization. In other words, to be a fulfilled and happy person you have to be a “self-made” man or woman. As such, how I feel and what I achieve are the measure of who I am.

But Christianity offers a different way: to find our lasting and permanent identity in Jesus Christ – the one who showed his love and commitment to us in giving his own life for us.

This address by Presbyterian minister Tim Keller contains much to think about. I recommend you grab a coffee and take the time to watch it. Maybe watch it twice. (Note: his talk begins at 1:55)
